Dr. Douglass Johnson is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon dedicated to helping patients overcome neck and back pain and return to the activities they enjoy most. Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Johnson developed an early interest in medicine through his love of science and opportunities to shadow local surgeons. Although he initially began college as an economics major, he soon recognized that medicine was his true calling and pursued a career focused on improving patients' quality of life.
Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before completing a Master of Science in Physiology and his Doctor of Medicine degree at Georgetown University. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and went on to pursue advanced fellowship training in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at Emory University Hospital.
Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include cervical spine surgery, lumbar spine surgery, complex spinal deformity correction and endoscopic spine surgery. He offers both surgical and non-surgical treatment options and works closely with patients to develop personalized care plans that align with their goals and lifestyle.
His patient care philosophy centers on listening. Dr. Johnson believes that understanding how symptoms affect a patient's daily life is essential to successful treatment. He prioritizes education, open communication and shared decision-making while ensuring conservative treatment options are considered whenever appropriate before surgery.
Committed to advancing the field of spine surgery, Dr. Johnson has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, contributed to orthopedic surgery textbook chapters and presented research at regional, national and international meetings. His academic interests include robotic spine surgery, spinal deformity, surgical outcomes and emerging technologies designed to improve patient care.
Dr. Johnson joined Texas Spine Consultants to serve patients throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area alongside a highly respected team of spine specialists. He values the opportunity to provide comprehensive spine care while continuing to learn and collaborate with leaders in the field.
Outside of work, Dr. Johnson enjoys playing golf, cooking with his wife, exploring new restaurants, attending sporting events and live music performances and practicing guitar. He and his wife are proud to call North Texas home, where they are enjoying life with their newborn daughter and Bernedoodle puppy.
